Ioshackz.com TSMC Announces Its Plan To Build Semiconductor Plant In Arizona, USA Semiconductor manufacturing giant and Apple’s chip supplier TSMC announced that it plans to build and operate a semiconductor plant in Arizona. The plant will begin construction in 2021 and put it into use in 2024.
TSMC said that this new facility will produce 20,000 semiconductor wafers per month, directly creating more than 1,600 high-tech professional jobs, and creating thousands of indirect jobs in the semiconductor ecosystem. From 2021 to 2029, TSMC’s total expenditures (including capital expenditures) on this project will be approximately $12 billion.
The Taiwan-based semiconductor foundry emphasizes that this project is of critical, strategic significance to a vibrant and competitive U.S. semiconductor ecosystem that enables leading U.S. companies to manufacture their state-of-the-art semiconductor products in the United States and to benefit from the proximity of a world-class semiconductor foundry and ecosystem.
TSMC is the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, Apple is one of TSMC ‘s leading customers, and the company’s custom-designed A-series chips have been manufactured by TSMC for years.
TSMC currently operates a plant in Camas, Washington, USA, and has design centers in Austin, Texas, and San Jose, California. The Arizona plant will be TSMC’s second manufacturing site in the US.
