Inductiv’s engineering team has joined Apple in recent weeks to participate in multiple projects including Siri, machine learning, and data science.

For this acquisition, Apple gave a customary statement that Apple “buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.”

Inductiv was founded by several professors at Stanford University, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Wisconsin. Its technology uses artificial intelligence to automatically identify and correct errors in the data set. “Clean” datasets are very important for machine learning.

In artificial intelligence and other fields, some of Apple’s recent acquisitions have attracted attention.

In 2016, Apple also acquired Seattle startup Turi to expand its machine learning and artificial intelligence team. On this basis, Apple released the Turi Create framework to simplify the development of machine learning models.

In 2018, Apple bought Silk Labs, an artificial intelligence startup focused on privacy.

Earlier this year, Apple also acquired Xnor.ai, a low-power artificial intelligence startup. The company’s technology is used by smart home camera manufacturer Wyze to detect people on the device.

Also, merely two weeks ago, Cupertino purchased NextVR, a 10-year-old company that merges virtual reality technology with sports and entertainment.
